Angkor Thom is the ancient temple site of Khmer Empire. Jayavarman VII(1181~1218) built most of the temples spanning nine square kilometers, and the famous Bayon Temple stands high at the center the fortressed city. The capital of Khmer was hidden deep in the Cambodian jungle for five centuries until Henry Mouhot, a French natural scientist, stumbled across the site in the 1860's.
