| 미국 대통령의 관저로 수도 워싱턴에서 가장 오래된 건물이다. 1800년 제2대 대통령 J.애덤스 때 완성되어 1814년 대영전쟁 때 소실되었다가 재건 후 외벽을 하얗게 칠한 데서 이 명칭이 생겼고, 제26대 대통령인 루즈벨트 때 정식 명칭이 되었다. |

| The White House is the presidential residence and office of the U.S. President where many diplomatic and political decisions are made. Completed by James Hoban in 1800, the grand structure has been the home of every president since the second president, John Adams. The British burned it in 1814 during the Independence War, but it was rebuilt under James Hoban\'s direction. Theodore Roosevelt adopted `White House\' as the building\'s official name in 1902 for its white exterior walls. |
