| 대한불교 조계종 11교구 본사의 하나로 그 경내는 사적 및 명승 제1호로 지정되어 있으며, 1995년 세계문화유산 목록에 등록되었다. 경내 면적은 11만 7541평이다. 자신의 구원, 부모의 명복, 국가와 민족의 안녕, 부처의 가호 등을 비는 절실한 염원이 이 곳 돌 하나하나에 담겨있으며 이러한 정성으로 이룩된 불국사는 신라인이 마음에 그린 불국(佛國) 즉, 이상적인 피안의 세계 그 자체라 하겠다. |

| Bulguksa was established in 751 upon Kim Dae seong\'s request during the reign of King Gyeong-deok of Silla, an ancient Korean Kingdom. Being one of the 25 temples under the Korean Buddhist Chogye Order, it\'s designated as the first historical temple of Korea and listed as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO. The name 佛國(pronounced bulguk in Korean; meaning Buddhistkingdom) embodies the Silla people's desire to find earthly nirvana and build a Buddhist country.Past the corridor and in front of the main temple building are Dabotab and Seokgatab(pagoda), National Treasures No. 20 and 21. |
