| The Statue of Liberty was presented by the people of France in 1886 to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the American independence. A symbol of the United States of America, the statue holds an upraised torch in her right hand and tablet of the Declaration of Independence in the other. She stands 92 meters tall, and her index finger alone is 2.4 meters long. Bartholdi, the French sculptor, modeled the statue after his mother. |
